A. Expected physical changes
8) Musculoskeletal
(a) Sacral bones relax because of hormonal changes.
This often causes a waddling gait with slight separation at symphysis pubis.
(b) Some postural changes occur to compensate for weight
shift. This is to maintain the body's center of gravity, but it also contributes
to muscle aches. Caution: as pregnancy progresses, be aware that labor
contractions can feel similar to back pain. Try to discern between the
two by feeling abdomen for regular patterned movements or tightening of
muscle and also wear flat shoes to decrease chance of falling.
